Most owls hunt during the night and sleep during the day. They eat insects, frogs, and small mammals, such as mice. Owls often make their nests in hollow tree trunks.
Beavers live in a lodge on the river. To make the lodge, they build a dam across the river using wood from the trees. The dam makes a small lake. Then they build their lodge in the middle of this lake. Beavers eat seeds, leaves, and twigs from the trees. Their favourite food is the bark from willow and maple trees.

Pond plants produce oxygen and are a source of food for many of the insects and animals living on or near the pond. Pond plants are a good place for animals to hide and hunt for prey.
Trees use the energy from the sun to turn carbon dioxide and water into food. They also produce much of the oxygen in our atmosphere. Many animals live in the trees because they provide food such as leaves, fruit, seeds, and bark. The trees also offer shelter and a place for animals to hide and wait for prey.
Beetles, worms, and other small creatures live in the dark, damp leaf litter, where they hide from predators such as birds. Beetles and worms help to break down fallen leaves, branches, and dead animals into smaller pieces that are then mixed back into the soil. Nutrients from this dead material are used again by plants for food.
Frogs and tadpoles live in the waterweeds of a pond or water hole. Frogs eat the insects that fly around the surface of the pond. Tadpoles eat the algae that lives in the waterweeds. During the winter, some frogs burrow into the mud at the bottom of the pond.
